    Hello Community,

Any assistance you can provide me with in authenticating this Third Reich Police Shako would be greatly apprecaited. My gut tells me its a fake however it's is a little hard to tell given the patina and potential signs of wear.

Any assistance is always greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

I don't see any issues with it. It looks like a nice Rural Police Shako to me. Is there a particular reason you think it might be fake. Here are some to compare with

    Thanks for the expertise Aldo.

The reason why I thought it to be fake is because it ships from India and from my research, anything from India and Pakistan in regards to these items tends to be something to look out for in terms of authenticity. Also, alot of repros unfortunately come from there as well from what I’m finding.

Shako looks authentic to the extent that the photos allow assessment.

However, I personally would not buy an item for my collection from India unless I knew the seller. Some fraudsters post photos of good items that they do not actually have and in general I steer away from countries where I think legal recourse would be lacking.

For what it is worth...I agree

Yes I agree as well. These are not that uncommon, I would look for a more reliable source.

    Default Post Update: Better Pictures

I did some more digging and was able to get better photos. I'm pretty certain this is a repro unless the shako is real and the plume is fake. I know the plume to be primarily made out of metal however there was the odd fabric plume / headpiece however this doesn't match anything that I ahve come across.

The old bait and switch. The original shako photo is original. That second shako is a really poor fake that looks like something from Pakistan or India.
