Hi, Humble Collector
It’s quite convincing, but it’s a fake. I’m quite familiar with it. Some better photos would help for reference here.

The font of the letters and that hypen between National and Socialiste... Like Green said a half decent copy mean't to decieve buyers..
Not a challenge Green but can I have your reasoning for your assessment so I can learn please?

By all means, always question/challenge! It's the only way we will ever learn something new. This badge, there is nothing authentic looking about it, to me. The font is just too perfect, the stippling looks weak also. The odd shaped lettering and the gaps are funny looking also. It's a combination of many things. I'm pretty sure I have this one somewhere and it's just junk, in the hand. Here's a thread I started on it before. And here are the photos in a bit more detail.

To tell you the true Green, as soon as I saw the front of this badge I didn't like it but could not put my finger onto it.
I would not say the font is perfect as you say, to me it looks rough but I was unsure if it wasn't just the pic.
Thanks for your explanation.

Here is one a purchased that was in a lot with others. This one was hidden amongst decent ones.
I'm convinced it is a fake because:
The pin catch depasses the edge. The gold trim around the swastika. The gold on the edge that bleeds out to the outer ring. The light stamping of the letters on the rear. The two letters S with a gold overflow flaw..
Perhaps Green can add his thoughts
@ ouroux71 - Maybe it is my poor people's eyes that are just not used to it, but I dont see any gold - could it be you mean the silver plating?
Regarding the badge - it may not look like it, but is original, pre-war Ges.Gesch badge. I think a similar variant is also mentioned in Jo's book.
Regarding why the Pin is not centered - maybe it went lose and then slipped and finally got stuck out of center (would be my first guess) - or it was made hasty - nevertheless it is still the original Pin.
About the letters - looks like a little something (dirt, stone) got in the stamping die at the "S" or the die was already getting old/broken and just used to often. Also the badge is a bit unevenly polished (after the enamel was added and cooled down, the badge was polished).
Still, no cracks, no damage, clear enamel- a nice badge!
PS: This badge also shows well what makes the upper badge a fake - the letters on the lower badge are totally uneven, hand-carved into a die - while the letters on the upper badge are all identical from a clear font, cut into the stamp/die by a CNC/robot. If you look very close at the letters of the upper badge, you can even see where the engraving drill started and ended its path.
The more I think about it, the more I tend to say that the die was just already very old when this badge was made, apart from that - nothing wrong with the badge - the maker just used it as much as possible.
Just when I thought I was getting the hang of it.
The more I read the more I realise just how much I don't know.
