I would say the dagger has been messed with.
Less flash in the photos would help greatly so as to give the correct information you are seeking.
Right now with these current photos ..I would walk away and I already see 2 details that are recent applied.
Better photos please less flash and if possible either use indirect lighting or take the photos outside on an overcast day.

I am with you .i felt something not right on that Dagger!
And what about that SA Dagger I found for sale? I am not sure about that cut on the top of the pommel nut ? I wonder if it’s a fake one or messed with ? Maybe you could help ?
Freshly opened dagger for what ever reason as seen by the scrape marks on the tang nut...other than that the dagger appears early period and in a lower condition.
Try using the Forums search engine on the upper right hand corner of this page where it says advanced search and type in any key words that should bring up a list of comparable threads.
Reading and studying will also strengthen your knowledge.
