Hi forum,
Looking for some extra eyes on this dagger which popped up for sale.
To me the nickelsilver looks nice and dull. Blade a bit overcleaned imo but I can see past that.
Would appreciate some opinions about the paint job. Thank you and have a nice weekend ahead.
Hello Vocht...in regards to the scabbard....
It is a spray repaint not done during the period.
Spray painting leaves " pepper " type bumps on the surface.
The dagger itself is authentic as you have stated but shows surface conditions and also the blade has heavily been scrubbed.
Nothing matches equally in overall condition of both the dagger and scabbard.
I have seen hand repainted scabbards on early SA daggers...but never has any early scabbard been repainted before the 1936 order came down to repaint SA scabbards or purchase NSKK scabbards. By 1936 the scabbard fittings changed to Nickel or silver plating.
The example you show above has early nickel fittings.
