This star was awarded on October 31, 1943 to Guards Captain of the Medical Service Viktor Ivanovich Shirokov, surgeon in the 1st Independent Medical Battalion of the 4th Guards Rifle Division. According to the citation, following his arrival in the regiment he quickly became an independently operation surgeon, and he is now capable of performing the most complex procedures. He became a prominent physician and was charged with overseeing blood transfusions within the battalion and within the regiments. He also frequently visited the regiments, where he taught the doctors and medics how to perform blood transfusions on severely wounded troops, thus raising the overall quality of surgical duties within the division. He was directly involved in treating 250 lightly wounded men.
