I. Concise, concrete description of personal feat of arms or merits

Comrade Tavanets participated in the Great Patriotic War from 05.01.1942 to 27.01.1942 as part of the 666th Independent Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, 314th Rifle Division, in the position of battalion chief of signals. Appointed commander of an assault group to take the village of Mostki, Leningrad Oblast, he advanced with his group under heavy machine-gun fire. On 27.01.1942, he was severely wounded in the left leg, right arm, and bladder. From 27.01.1942 to 01.07.1943, he was in the hospital for recuperation. On 1 July, 1943, as unfit for military service, he was dismissed via Hospital №4109. The wound is confirmed by an illness certificate from Evacuation Hospital №4109.

After dismissal, he received a pension beginning in 1943, at first per 2nd group, then from 1948 per 3rd group of disability. To this day, the wound he suffered affects his general health condition, especially the bladder wound.

At present, he works as a forest ranger for the Pirotchinskoye Forest Area, Shostkinsky LesKhozZag; his work evaluations are favorable. Local Soviet and Party organs recommend that he be presented for awarding.

CONCLUSION: Considering the severe would he received in defense of the USSR, which to this day has an impact on his general health, he deserves awarding of the Government award the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class.

Very nice star with nice citation. After 1947 the disabled where seen as something negative in Stalin's eyes and were pushed to the background but fortunately after Stalin's death these heroes got full recognition again and many were awarded for their wartime deeds that led to their disabilities. This Red Star is such an award. Very nice!
