Thank you Marcel and I agree! The fact that many Soviet awards are often very researchable is one of the things that drew me into this collecting field. I am a collector of US WW2 militaria as well and I still curse the 1973 fire at the US National Archives that destroyed so much of the US Army/US Army Air Force WW2 personnel records.
Thank you JMM! I was definitely fortunate to receive a photo of Lt. Tarakanov (especially without having his Service Record pulled). The fact he's wearing both of his Red Stars in the photo, presumably one of which is No. 1897402 that I have now, really highlights the history of this particular ORS.

A very nice order. I have a question. Does anyone have a Red Star with the silver medallion on the front removed? (If the medallion is separated from the order itself). I am curious to see what is under that bit, and what the medallion looks like on its back.
