by the way, the signature on that EK1 document could be that of Generalmajor Werner Ranck who was commander of the 121 Infanterie-Division at the time that document was signed under which was the Artillerie-Regiment 121 which included Heer Artillerie Abteilungen I-IV.

Here we have the soldier, your Great Uncle, as part of Heer Artillerie Abteilung II.

At the time he was Generalleutnant Ranck and was awarded the RK as a Generalmajor on 2 March 1945.

what do some of you others think? same man?

This is a very nice document signed by an RK winner if that is the case.

The L/11 marked EK1 was a private purchase piece and may not have been the awarded medal. The 'L' prefix stands for LDO or 'Leistungsgemeinschaft Deutschen Ordenhersteller'.

This was a regulating organization which oversaw the manufacturing of TR awards. Manufacturers were given a PKZ or Prasidalkanzlei number and some an LDO number.

The PKZ number would be like the '55' on the EK2 and the LDO number the 'L' prefixed 'L/11' on the EK1. It is generally accepted that unmarked or PKZ marked pieces were the award medals and the LDO marked examples were privately purchased upon the individual producing the necessary proof he or she was entitled to that award.

OK, I got the promotion date wrong. He was promoted to Generalmajor on 1 OCT 1944 so he'd been at that rank for a month when he signed that EK1 document.

I mistakenly entered the date he received the Knight's Cross as his promotion date.

That is the correct signature on the document so it's signed by an RK winner, Generalmajor Werner Ranck. That's important and makes the award document more valuable and desirable.

$100 would be low for this one.

very, very nice little group there.

Whatever you do, the group should be kept together and not split up.
