Gunnery Medallion

Recieved this as a gift from a young lady about 25 years ago, I have a pretty good idea that is an award medallion of some sorts for an artillery competition. The Date and Unit info is obvious ..... looks like a "2nd Prize" piece. Just curious as to wether or not I am on the right track here.... were these common?

Your description is correct.

They are not rare. I like this kind of thing. Most Regt's pre war issued prizes for best shot, etc.
