A beautiful spring like day for outside chores, and figured I’d post this R. S. Naval Coastal Artillery badge.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe this is the style of hinge you want to see on this badge.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. I had a quick look earlier and I believe the hinge should be rectangular and set in a guide mark that is part of the die?

Postwar Souval with replaced hardware, I suspect...And what is that Black area between the gun and the wreath?

Not even a post-war Souval, I'm afraid. That's the hinge used by Staegemeir on his Souval copy. This is a cast reproduction of a Souval and the black finish on the beach is imitating the zinc Juncker's finish.

Well, the "R.S." is different on different Kriegsmarine service badges. Angular on the Minesweeper but rounded on the Marine Artillery Badge. The badge in the opening post is a cast reproduction of an original Souval so it duplicates the correct mark.
