    Hey guys,
A friend that does not collect picked this up in eastern Europe a few years ago. I know absolutly nothing about these and was just wondering if this one stands a chance? I know its in very poor condition but any help would be much appreciated.

I believe this is a fake.

It's a Souval pattern badge (no cut outs indicates the type 1 pattern) that is accepted as war time production, but was used for many years after the war to produce copies. The reverse is strange though, as it's a semi hollow type like that found on Juncker badges, when all type 1 Souval badges were flat backs. The hardware is also wrong, it's a type seen on post war fakes and that pin type can be found on some '57 awards. It seems to have been placed in something akin to battery acid to age it and also help disguise the details of the badge, it's basically all wrong.

    Regards, Ned.
