Hi mate, I know that the back is supposed to have 3 prongs bent over a small oblong metal plate, and covered with black cotton if that helps?

Personally, I would pass on this. I have seen numerous badges in silver and gold of this ilk recently. I don't like the turret hatch detail and there is detail missing from around the barrel. Also, a 4mm black line top and bottom decorates the ribbon. This example looks far to thin.

It is bad. Incorrect tank and ribbon detail.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hey can I ask a question on these badges. Someone once told me they were magnetic???? that was a way to tell them as original?? Could be a furphy, I can't quite understan why there would be magnetic badges......

Surely they must have meant that the badge would be attracted by a magnet? In the same way as a Nahkampfspange backing plate is magnetic (i.e. steel) as compared to the rest of the zinc construction?

I just thought it would have been strange to have a badge attached by a magnet for a combat award on a tunic worn in the field.....or am I way off the track here

If an award is magnetic it only means that the material it was made out of is magnetic. No awards were ever worn with a magnetic attachment device of any sort.

Just to clarify, when collectors talk about a badge being magnetic, it means the badge is made of a material that will stick to a magnet. Not that the badge itself is magnetic or a magnet is used as a method of attachment.
For example an iron core of an EK will be attracted to a magnet, a brass cored EK will not.
Pin assemblies can also be magnetic. It is not unusual to find a non magnetic badge with a magnetic pin and vice versa. It just depend on the materials the award is constructed from.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
