Im no expert but this is what i think, the grimacing eagle is correct for a Friedrich Orth and the rudder is nice and small. the only thing im worried about is the makers mark, there should be a full stop(or actually a slash) after the f and o, on this one the full stop is missing after the o. the f also doesnt looked curved enough.
but wait for the experts.
I'm preaty sure(99%) it's a fake, sorry
Thanks for your knowledge chaps. Looks like i've been burn't again!!
I've had this one in my collection for a couple of years, but picked up a nice Klein and Quenzer a couple of weeks back, which i posted and got the thumbs up on from the forum.
One good thing to come out of it is, at least i know who to deal with now.
Many thanks

no problem
I burne't me 3 times on this badge before I got a good one..![]()
The easiest identifying feature is the ribbon at the bottom of the wreath. The ripples on the ribbon run parallel to the bottom of the U-Boot on originals and aren't that well defined. On fakes such as above they ripple at right angles to the edge of the ribbon.
Also worth noting is the makers mark. You will often find on these fakes there is a small pimple on the 'O' at approximately the 1 o'clock position. There isn't one on the badge above but look closer, you can see a straight edge in that area where the fakers have removed the pimple on the die.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
Cheers Adrian. It's a minefield!!!
Appreciate it.
Best
Mark
