To me, the paint is too 'fresh' looking for a zinc badge,
and the pin seems to be British style.........

Not a German military badge in my opinion...Perhaps a football club pin?

Talking heraldics the lion is a lot like the royal Swedish "Wasa" lion which originates from somewhere in Flanders in the early 16th century. Nothing German in it in my opinion. If you look carefully the lion actually has a "Vase" or a sheaf in its palm. The colours also point to Sweden

Defnitely no SS connection. The heraldic design is different from that of the shield of the Galician division.

    Spot on, Kris; that's it!

See: Coat of arms of the Netherlands - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    The blazon is as follows:

"Azure, billetty Or a lion with a coronet Or armed and langued Gules holding in his dexter paw a sword Argent hilted Or and in the sinister paw seven arrows Argent pointed and bound together Or. [The seven arrows stand for the seven provinces of the Union of Utrecht.]"

    You're right HPL2008.
It certainly is the Dutch lion.
Here's another pic with the similar colours like the pin:

The following information is not reliable because is from a Dutch Internet auction site called Marktplaats. (similar like EBAY)
110 × 147 - ENZO Bronze pin with lion STOOTTROEPEN Ned Indies KNIL

Maybe it's a winterhilfswerke or a Nederlandse Unie pin from ww2, but personally I believe it's a civilian stickpin from the 50-60's.
