Hello, John,
Happy New Year to you.
The medal is original but the ribbon is incorrect. The ribbon belongs to the
Order of Glory
or
Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945".
This is the correct ribbon for this medal:
The suspension on your medal is incorrect.

Hello SovPha,
thank you for the information and pictures that you send with it.
A happy new year and a good weekend to you too,
John
John,
From the pictures provided, I'm not liking it.
Wait for other opinions.
I agree with Leaftree. Doesn't do it for me.

I concur. There was only one type and the only variation was that the late issued medals (for those who never initially received it) had a bright gold wash finish.
To my eye this one looks cast rather than die forged, there are signs of pitting from casting which are dissimilar to those caused by corrosion. Also the wear looks unnatural as if it was cast from a worn medal then rubbed a little more to cover the signs.
Sorry but I think it is a fake, not even a simple reproduction and intended to deceive.
Don't be disheartened though, we all have one or two in the "drawer of shame"! Familiarity is the answer and there is only one way to become familiar!
Regards
Mark
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
I wish everyone all the best for 2024 and a great collecting year.
Unfortunately, this does not apply to this medal. The medal does not give me a good feeling either. For a good reference of the medal you can look at the Mondvor website; Медаль "ЗА ОБОРОНУ МОСКВЫ"
Hello Mark,
I sort of feared that it was a fake, thank you for confirming it.
To be honest soviet things are not my main interest and mostly get them with a bunch of other things.
I suppose most if not all have bought a fake before.
Thank you for your time,
John
Hello, John,
Please note that your medal is an original TYPE 1. The example shown here is heavily worn down.
The old gold plating is still visible on the reverse by the lettering, along with just lightly on the front.
I wish you a great day.

SovPha
