It is an original star made by Moskow "Platinapribor" Factory (MZPP). All looks good. Awarded to a Lieutenant Colonel from an Artillery Regiment. He earned quite some awards! Very nice Red Star!
Btw, it is a Type 6 variant 6.2.
I agree with Marcel, it's an original red star in great condition, with even greater research!
I love when a group has a photo of the recipient.
Original, and a nice grouping to a very heavily awarded soldier!
I'd class it as a Type 3, option 2, variety 5 made in September '45 which also fits that serial number range
Myself I use this list to catagorise the Red Stars:

We are both on the money, just different references.
Can somebody with more background help me understand the person's record?
I see
Medal For Bravery
Order of Red Banner
Order of the Great Patriotic War I
Medal for Combat Services
Medal for Defense of Caucuses
Medal for Victory over Germany
Order of Red Star
Order of the Red Banner (2nd).
My reading is terrible, but it looks like there are citations for Red Star, Red Banner and OGPWI? But I would have guessed this Red Star (along with the Combat Services and the 2nd Red Banner) are for long service...Is the Red Star citation for this red star?
So yes, the first citation shown is for the Bravery medal, maybe downgraded?
It appears the "Red Star" is indeed for long service..... as was the Combat Services (issued 3.11.44) and (likely) the 2nd Red Banner.
Good observation. I also noticed the citations are for RS, RB and OPWI but unfortunately only small fragments of the full citations are shown. Though I can't read Russian and thus can't translate the citations I would expect the Red Star to be for long service indeed. If the full citation of that Red Star would be shown it would make things more clear. For those that read Russian the translation would be sufficient to know if this one is for long service (though imo the date of awarding says enough already).
