Please help identify this unknown ribbon

Hello all!

My grandfather served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater on an LCI.

I have identified all but one of the ribbons which was a box of his Navy items (it is shown in the attached photo).

Since I've had such a hard time identifying this ribbon, I can't be completely sure that it was awarded to him, or something he picked up along the way...though this is pretty unlikely.

Can anyone help with this? The only time I've ever seen another like it was on e-bay, but the owner didn't know what it was. Thanks in advance!

Good eye Ade that is a hard one to recognize because it didn't last into the WWII era. In fact I have only seen a few and they are always in rough shape. Also I've not seen one with the plastic coating which makes me think that if it was your fathers he had to have served in WWI and maybe this was one he purchased during WWII to wear on his ribbon bar. Or as you say something he picked up along the way.

I have since been told that it is a Veterans of Foreign War medal and this has been confirmed by the VFW....thanks for your help!
