I feel it would have to be post 1932 as the award was reestablished in that year.
I think it was awarded to WW1 army vets after this date whom had been wounded in action or had won the Meritorious Services Citation Certificate.I may be incorrect on that though.
I believe they were engraved with the name of the recipient.

Nothing on the back? It looks more like a watch fob than a wounded award. Not genuine. William

    I agree with William.

Great link Dave ! - but all the early PH's shown are consistent and in
one standard design only, whether crimp or slot brooch. The one
in question is cheaply made, lacking in quality and would never
be accepted as original from any era.

A definite curiosity that would be frowned upon by the
US Government if someone were to make anything
    like it today.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

    Gday Steve,
No worries mate but I was only trying to show the member that it couldn't be WW1 era issued and that the PH's awarded to WW1 service men should(i think) have the vets name engraved on the back surface. The link enabled Newbie to make his own judgement i feel. The one thing i've learned re posting is to be 100% certain on originality if making a call.I'm no judge in identifying original PH's and have no real interest in them, but thought i would pass on the few facts I did know.
I was fence sitting, and fair enough i feel
    Cheers

I would agree with William's take on this too.

Knowing the size of this one might be useful.

    Cheers, Ade.

Everyone, this is not an actual medal, but a child's toy. These "child's play" medals were issued in the 1960's for children to both collect and use to play soldier with. I have a DSO just like it. If the seller is passing this off as an original wwi purple heart, STAY AWAY.
