    Hi ,

Sorry to post a new message on this old conversation.

I have just recovered this Czechoslovak badge from a private (non-collector). He himself discovered this badge in Aubigny-sur-Nère (30 km south of Gien).

Considering the sector, I think it could be a French manufacture for the Czechoslovak army in France. Could I have your opinion?

For information, the Czechoslovaks (1st division) fought in Gien to defend the Loire bridge.

    thank you

    Antoni

    Hello Antoni,

for me it seems to be British production of small Czechoslovak head wear badge. In France 1940 I have not seen at any picture of our units black badge and all of them were made just from the light metal (white or yellow metal). Anyways I have contacted some guys who can tell me more about Czechoslovak badges used in France 1940 by 1st Czechoslovak Infantry Division. I keep you informed.

My book is in the process of preparation for printing. As it has two parts and together around 800 pages, still it is not pointed it out as the work on finalization of pages is under the process, all take more time as I supposed. Really tough work. See our e-shop:

Československe vojenske jednotky v ZSSR - vystroj, ľahka pechotna vyzbroj a iny intendančny material: I. a II. časť

    The best wishes,

    Hi Romlan,
Thank you very much for your help !
Indeed, there is just the location of the find which reminds me of a pre-1940 badge. The badge was found under detection (metal detector). The Czechs were never around in 1944.

I can see the corrosion on the badge so the light cover of basic metal is lost. This is a reason why the badge is not in a light color. I am not specialist at our forces in France and unfortunately none from my friends who are focused at our French military forces in 1939-1940 was able to identify the badge. But may be that the badge is really 1940 pattern. I can see that the metal pin on the back side of the badge is unique and I have never seen such solution before.

I just found this photo on a site of a French ministry. there is this caption: "Czechoslovaks in the training camp of Agde in France, March 1940 - © SHD DE 2007 ZC 18/1/2705"

    Antoni,

when you are looking at the badge and all of them are like this the color is light metal. Your badge is black. It was typical for the UK and this misunderstood me. All the dark or black color it seems to be has been created by corrosion and light metal color diapered because of ground . I have all book about our unit in France when you have hundreds of very high quality of pictures but I cannot say after this pictures that your badge is on 100% the badge produced in France. It should be better to try to find any the best atelier portrait picture in high quality after which you can take the relief of the badge and to compare with your badge or try to find something in French archives becasue if such badges were produced there should be some evidence about it especially if the France helped in this matter. I know that in France there were a couple of companies in Paris which produced as buttons (T.W. + W.), badges for airmen (V. Pištora), etc.
