That's an interesting one. Hopefully Tony E will be along to confirm, but could the D be Dominion Cartridge Co., Brownsberg, Quebec, Canada ? It would then follow that the numbers were batch numbers and a date. Possibly

It is a Dutch military round made by Hirtenberger at their Dordrecht (D) plant in Holland. It was probably made for the Air Force as they had .303 Vickers and Lewis guns on their aircraft.
Beware though, because of the similar case length it is very easy to confuse Dutch .303 with Dutch 7.92x57R that their Air Force also used in machine guns.

Yes to both of those. I think one "34" is the case manufacture date and the second the filling date.
