    i dont remember where is my lot of dummy .50 ,I think in box , i have 7 (.50) but where !!

    During the war, the U.S. looked into using steel cartridge cases and found that the grade steel needed was also needed for all the ships, tanks and everything else made from high grade steel. Also the manufacturing processes were more critical in forming steel as compared to brass - in the end, except for .45 ACP ammo, all steel cased small arms ammo was desinated for use in the continental U.S. and not for overseas (combat)use. A lot of the .50 cal cases were made into dummy rounds rather than take a chance on a gun jamming in combat. The headstamp of FA 4 is for Frankfort Arsenal in 1944.
    These dummy rounds are common and very impressive.

    As late as 1970 (and probably even later) these were used for training. I recall this headstamp on dummy rounds used in training on Browning .50s at Fort Polk in 1970.

    Here is a shot of the WWI German anti-tank round on which the .50 cal US machine gun was based, next to a .50 cal. US round and the .60 cal. US machine gun round that was developed in St. Louis.
