This came to me from a former museum along with a few other (mainly German) ground finds. There were also some post-war Soviet casings etc. in the boxes that I inspected.

I've tried to do my research but have had no success finding another example of this particular variant online. No idea on nationality either, sadly. Couldn't find any markings. It is really quite massive, that's for sure - I've included a Soviet 50mm tail for scale.

All opinions and ideas are welcome

    Thanks!

I don’t have a clue.....but I know a beautifully presented item when I see it. Thank you for taking the time to present it so well for us.

    Good luck!

Thanks, but are you quite sure? That's what I was thinking of at first... but couldn't find photos of 12cm tails that matched mine perfectly. Here are some (both German and Russian) variants of the 120mm shell, not one of them is exactly the same as mine. The very bottom of the tail assembly, the number of fins (only 5 pairs on mine) and the arrangement of holes seem to be slightly different compared to my example in every case.

Nevermind, I think I just found my match. Here's a picture of a Finnish-made shell for the 120 Krh/40 mortar

    Thanks for the comments!

Definitely not, way too big to be even close to an 81mm tail.

The propellant area on yours looks tapered. I don't see that on the Finnish round.
