Years ago, I purchased this shell case from a family who told me it was brought here to Canada by an ancestor who’d served in South Africa during the Second Boer War. I’ve always had my doubts about this, but could this be true?

A Royal Laboratories 4.7 In, (without a scale we have to take your word for it). Made in 1899 so within the period for the Naval 4.7 In, (the N and crow's-foot indication for Navy). Mounted on several ships that took part in the war and also dismounted and put on a carriage to give a longer range field gun used as land based.

Was it Boer War Cartridge case, (not a shell!) possibly, can it be proved, well if you had a relative there at the time and who was not anywhere else that 4.7's were deployed then yes possible but un-provable.
