A Legal Question

Article about: Hello folks. I thought I’d put this question up on the forum, as research has turned up varying opinions with no clear answers either way. I’m currently in the process of putting togethe

We can buy live ammo via the mail, but never thought if there would be a prohibition on shipping outside of the US. Something I don't know. Sorry.
No worries. It was worth a shot (pun not intended) but I’ve decided it’s best to err on the side of caution when it comes to ammo, inert or otherwise. The last thing I want is my middle man committing an ITAR violation and ending up with a prison sentence.

To any further comments/commenters on the matter

Here is little bit from the Universal Postal Union guidelines. ( of which the U.K. and USA are a part of). So a middle man would have to do a false customs label. Which would be mean even more problems if it’s checked for contents

“The insertion of replica and inert explosive devices and military ordnance, including replica and inert grenades, inert shells and the
like, shall be prohibited in all categories of items.“

I once purchased a Winchester Model 73 rear sight from a seller in the US, and the only way the seller could get it through customs was by describing it as a: 'Mechanical pointing device.' it really isn't worth the hassle of trying to import anything firearms related from America.

    Cheers,

E Bay has 5 to offer, wooden dummy rounds. You can also get a wooden doll rod the size of the brass casing and make them yourself. Alos do a key word search wooden dummy 30.06 rounds as some come available in their original issue box:

You could try Soldier of Fortune UK, for inert ammo. I think I would be cautious about painting bullet tips as AP - a visit from Mr Plod and little explanation is likely to put him off.

Thank you all for the further suggestions. The eBay links are appreciated, but unfortunately suffer from the same problem as the sellers are based in the US. I’ll look into Soldier of Fortune. Thank you all again.

    Hi BB.

I can't help with your question directly, but if you put '30.06 inert ammo' into a search engine lots of links to UK dealers/sellers come up for both single rounds and complete belts.

    Kind regards,

    Will.

every time anyone buys anything cross-border they take a risk....and that varies depending upon the content and the "confession". Most folk buy'n'hope..and the worst that happens is one gets a customs demand for payment....but those laws are there to stop "bad" stuff...bullets, cases, flak jackets, kevlar helmets, grenades etc - and we all have views about how harmless they are but it doesn't matter to the masses, the Press or the security forces....and with bad stuff comes BIG attention. Most folk here will have bought something "wrong" which sailed through customs...and you'll even find some who've CARRIED something thru customs (and told EVERYONE about it) so therefore it's OK isn't it? And then there's "plod" as has already been said.....a lot of them see an AK and it's an AK...not an old spec certificated piece..."local man arrested with massive arms cache" headlines are never followed by "we got it wrong, local man is just a specialist collector and although what he collects can get him shot in the street and enable him to hold up a bank it's all good - sorry". The fact is we collect stuff directly associated with killing...helmets, belts, weapons...ALL army and therefore all war....if/when we hear about an attack where the attacker "bought stuff online" most of us think "surely there must be some checks...by someone...somewhere" (sadly there are also those who don't...they think it's "cool"). The question to ask is does it matter? Unless we open our collections up to all and sundry (not too many folk do that) and PRAY that one of the Joe Public doesn't look close enough at the collar button of the fourth tunic and notices the repro button someone sewed on to complete the tunic AND then tells everyone on the Socials that your entire collection is fake, driving you from your home in humiliation one has to ask does it really matter that something that spends most of it's time either in a Magazine (which incidentally is usually hidden in a weapon) or hidden in a cardboard storage box in a large wooden crate or, most likely, out of reach of any "visitors" is repro? in the UK at least the weapon will be "wrong" anyway (butchered/cut etc to whatever spec applies at the time - so that only LOOKS right)....when someone says "does it work?" and one replies "well actually the guts have been gut out, the barrel sliced/rodded, nothing moves on it and it doesn't even click" would "but that bullet is the real deal" help? I commend everyones commitment to detail but there's a loads of things more important in life than trying to circumvent security laws however illogical they appear to a handful of "nutters" (for that is what we are). Good luck BB, whatever you choose to do.

I think I get your gist Composite, whether that inert belt of ammo for BB's 1919 weapon display is the correct 30.06 or just a belt of regular nato 7.92 gimpy ammo is down to the individual. But there are ways and means and to attempt to import anything ordnance related into the UK is not the easiest way and could end in tears.
