My $10 flea Mkt find

Article about: Hi- I picked this projectile up to day at a small flea mkt. for 10 bucks. It will make a great door stop, but can anyone help me to ID it?

    It appears to be soild and weight 13.15 oz, 2 1/2 " across at base

    Reminds me of Spanish-American war artillery shells and I'm a bit concerned about it... being live... Unless that is a hole in the bottom

    The hole appear to be only 1/2" deep, I am not about to dig around in it, I put it down in the barn for now

    There looks to be what seems like a lead plug stuck into the hole in the base. It doesn't Look like a detonator...(doesn't mean it Couldn't be one, of course...)

    I'm not sure what to suggest , I'd try to find out if it's filled with lead or not . Take a close look at that bottom plug , use a small flat head screwdriver to scratch the metal lead will mark easily , if it is lead I believe this would be inert . Just proceed carefully .

    For 10 bucks, I realy don’t want to fool with it ,so I called the Sheriff office-and they took it.
