Unknown Artillery Shell Base

A friend gave me this shell casing base. Sadly it was made into an ashtray

What is it? Any date, country, etc?

Ive got one just like this(made into an ashtray as well) that my grandfather in the australian army brought back from ww2... it not that bad being an ashtray, i quite like it!

Do you have any idea as to what kind of gun this came from, country, etc??

honestly, this is not my field of great knowledge, so i can't help you with that... but i do think that it definately has potential as a ww2 casing.

It would appear to be Russian. The "37r" is the date for 1937. "r" signifies the year in Russian.

I reckon this is most likely a Russian 76.2mm artillery shell case base. Just a guess but id certainly agree with Adrian. Regards, Tim.
