It may be for a 105mm of some sort. As 105mm is 4 9/64”.
But I think that is too long for a 105mm shell for the m101. And those cases were rimmed so it wouldn’t be used for loading drills.
Is the hole in the nose threaded?
It is a smoke float, used as a marker by the Navy! Too many years as an EOD operator, one day I hope I can forget this stuff!!

Hello
Thank you very much
I never would have guessed it.

It's thanks to the East coast of England. You get loads of them washed up there, always a good way of ruining my Saturday watching Rugby!
Hello
Thank you
So its a English smoke float from ww2 or current?
Thanks again
Tony
The modern version is aluminium and plastic. These ones were in use in the 1980's that's for sure, I have a couple that get thrown into scenarios for EOD Operators in training now and again. The fact they are wood tends to throw them nicely! Originally they are light green and white basic body colour with white and orange stripes and a prominent warning to the public should they be found.
