1945 - 1970 Hel Peninsula Fortified Area



The Hel Fortified Area (Polish: Rejon Umocniony Hel) was a set of Polish fortifications, constructed on the Hel Peninsula in northern Poland, in close proximity to the interwar border of Poland and the Third Reich. It was created in 1936, upon a decree of President Ignacy Moscicki. It covered most part of the peninsula, and during Polish September Campaign, it was the last place of Poland to surrender to the invading Wehrmacht.

During German occupation of Poland, Hel, renamed into German name Hela, was a major training facility of the U-boat crews. Almost immediately after cessation of hostilities, the Germans began works in the base. Among others, a Schleswig-Holstein battery was built for three 40.6 cm SK C/34 guns ("Adolfguns").

In People's Republic of Poland, Hel did not lose its strategic importance. The peninsula was among the most protected military bases of the country.
Photographs were taken in October 2012 at the Hel Peninsula. The "film" uses the original Polish songs from the 50 and 60.

I was in Hel back in 2011 and visited the Costal Defence museum at battery bunker. Is well worth a visit as is most of the Hel peninsula. I noticed a few entrances to the current bases there with guard. I didnt see all the bunkers however as i was short on time through staying somewhere else away from Hel. Is this your own video or found on youtube?

Hello,
All that 3 videos are made by me, as I were there exactly a year ago. Some part of the fortification system are guarded because they are still in hands of Polish Army or Navy (eg. Battery Bunker No. 1, or ammo stocks near port).
