Pleshkov served in the artillery forces and was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on 21 March 1940, for fighting relentlessly on the Mannerheim Line during the Winter War. He was wounded twice in action but still carried on with his mission. Pleshkov was fighting on the outskirts of Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War and was seriously wounded on April 28 1942, due to stepping on an enemy mine. He died in a hospital the following day.
