Hello, I want to share with you some deathcard of soldiers of the gotz von berlichingen fallen in Normandy that I have in my collection.

Death notice of funker (transmitter) Ewald Link. His death is indicated on June 6, 1944 in Montreuil-Bellay. At the time the division was in the region of Saumur and began its ascent towards Normandy, it then suffered enemy air attacks. Montreuil-Bellay is one of the cantonments assigned to SS-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 17. He now rests in the cemetery of Mont-de-Huisnes.

Deathcard of Aloïs Attenhauser who fell in Graignes on June 11, 1944. He belonged to the 2nd Kompanie of the SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 37. He probably died during the assault against the paratroopers of the 507th Regiment of the 82nd Airborne. who will abandon the village on June 11. He now rests in the cemetery of Marigny.

Deathcards of grenadier Xaver Wenzl and grenadier Thomas Schilcher. They both belonged to the first battalion of the SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 37 and fell on June 13, 1944 during the counter-attack to retake Carentan which was in the hands of the paratroopers of the 101st Airborne. The Wenzl grenadier belonged to the 1st Kompanie and the Schilcher grenadier to the 4th Kompanie. I couldn't find where Grenadier Wenzl's grave was on the Volksbund. The grenadier Schilcher meanwhile rests in the cemetery of La Cambe. The scans are taken from the book on Götz by Heimdal editions.

Deathcard of Grenadier Josef Bachmeier belonging to Regiment 37 of the 17th SS Götz von Berlichingen. It is indicated on his obituary fallen in Cherbourg on July 02, 1944 what should probably be understood rather in the broad sense as the Cotentin peninsula as the Volksbund seems to indicate. On this date the SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 37 is in the following areas: RN174 (1st Battalion), between the Gouffre stream and the Taute (2nd Battalion) and Raffoville (3rd Battalion). He rests in the cemetery of Orglandes.

Deathcard of SS-Sturmmann Wilhelm Horn. He fell on July 7, 1944 near the place called the port which is located 500 meters south-east of Saint-André-de-Bohon. He belonged to the second battalion of the SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 38 and very probably to the 5th company which lost 28 men this day in this attack or else to the 6th company. He now rests in the cemetery of Orglandes. The scan comes from the book on Götz by Heimdal editions.

Deathcard of grenadier Johann Rach who fell on July 8, 1944 in Saint-Martin-d'Aubigny. He probably belonged to the Götz-von-Berlichingen division. However, it is not impossible that it belonged to the Das Reich division, elements of the reconnaissance battalion and SS-Panzer-Regiment 2 of which were also in the area. He rests in the cemetery of Marigny.

Deathcard of grenadier Franz Schmitzberger, who fell on July 12, 1944 near Auxais. I assume he belongs to the Götz von Berlichingen division as well, either SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 37 or SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 38.

Deathcard of SS-Pionier Johann Hager of the 3rd Kompanie of the SS-Pionier-Bataillon-17 of the Götz von Berlichingen division. He most probably fell between July 13 and 17, 1944 in the fighting fought by his battalion in the area around Remilly. He rests in the German cemetery of Marigny among the unknown soldiers. It should be noted that his name also appears on the family vault in Germany. The scans are taken from the book on Götz by Heimdal editions.

Deathcard of pioneer Konrad Zaigler. He died following a serious injury on July 15, 1944 in Saint-Lô. We can assume that he could have been seriously injured in the hard fighting delivered by the SS-Pionier-Bataillon 17 and was evacuated to Saint-Lô where he died. He now rests in the cemetery of Orglandes.

Sterbebild of the SS-Pionier Josef Egger who certainly belonged to the SS-Pionier-Bataillon-17 of the Götz von Berlichingen division.

He most likely lost his life in the defensive battles fought by the division southwest of Carentan (Tribehou/Remilly zone).

He is buried in the German cemetery of Orglandes.

Sterbebild by Georg Happach who fell on July 8, 1944 in Saint-Lô while he was fighting in the 17th SS division Götz Von Berlichingen as section leader. He previously served (assignment in May 1940) in the SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 3 "Deutschland" of the 2. SS-Panzer-Division "Das Reich" and therefore probably participated in the French campaign. He held the Iron Cross Second Class and the Wounded Badge. On July 8, 1944, the Götz was on the defensive northwest of Saint-Lô and faced a violent attack from the American 83rd ID which caused numerous losses, notably with the support of its artillery and its aviation. This day, SS-Obersturmbannführer Horstmann, who commands SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 38, commits suicide. SS Hauptscharführer Georg Happach is buried in the Cambe cemetery.

Sterbebild of the SS grenadier Johann Forster who fell on July 10, 1944 northeast of Auxais. It therefore belonged to the 17. SS-Panzergrenadier-Division Götz von Berlichingen or the 2. SS-Panzerdivision Das Reich. At this time the Götz suffered attacks from the 83rd American infantry division which attempted to attack south of Sainteny in order to cut the RN171. Elements of SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 37 and 38 are mixed. Elements of SS-Panzer-Regiment 2 of Das Reich are also present in this area. Grenadier Johann Forster is now buried in the Orglandes cemetery.
