On the 10th/11th On April 1, 1945, north of the city of Erfurt, in the village of Gispersleben, heavy fighting broke out between the American 317th Infantry Regiment and the German Kampfgruppe Kauer, which consisted of members of the Waffen-SS, Wehrmacht, Volkssturm and Hitler Youth. More than forty Germans and a dozen Americans died in the process.

Very interesting group of documents. Very appropriate that he probably fell to men from the 317th Infantry Regiment, who would shortly thereafter liberate the very cradle of Hitlers Reich when then crossed the Inn river and took control of Braunau.

During my research of the grouping, I stumbled upon this marker in Gispersleben with his last name inscribed on it. Despite the lack of his first name Johann on the stone I´m convinced this is the same man.

I agree. The DOB matches so it's got to be the same man.
Nice document grouping!
