Re: Kompanie campaign history and assorted papers 9./J.R.20 (mot )
Hi Dan, nice group, but you have the unit incorrect: 9 Kompanie/Infanterie Regt 20 (Mot)
Infanterieregiment 20 - Lexikon der Wehrmacht
The "J" is actually a German "I".
Unit ID is confirmed by the Feldpost number on the letter:
09097
(Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) Stab III Infanterie-Regiment 20,
(28.4.1940-14.9.1940) Stab III u. 9.-12. Kompanie Infanterie-Regiment 20,
(1.8.1943-23.3.1944) 3.2.1944 Stab III u. 9.-12. Kompanie Grenadier-Regiment 20,
(7.11.1944-Kriegsende) 23.11.1944 gestrichen.
Cheers, Ade.

Re: Kompanie campaign history and assorted papers 9./J.R.20 (mot )
Thanks Ade, that's why I ask the experts!
Someone? has penciled ( hard to see I know ) the unit name and 'Panzer grenadier' on the cover in the first photo - so that's what I thought it was....
Cheers mate, Dan

Nice lot Dan. Especially the letter to the family of the deceased, which is an interesting yet sad piece. Nice to see an officer with beautiful handwriting too, makes a change from all this modern day scribble.

Can you read what he had to say on the note with his photo Carl?
My only German is via Google translate and handwriting is impossible for me!

Unfortunately not Dan, I can't make much of it out. Perhaps if Andreas catches this thread, he will be kind enough to assist as he so often does.

Re: Kompanie campaign history and assorted papers 9./J.R.20 (mot )
It says:
"Für meine Kp. [= Kompanie-] Angehörigen habe
ich die Aufzeichnungen aus dem
Westkriege drucken lassen zur Erinnerung
an gemeinsame Kampferlebnisse.
Weihnachten 1940
[signed: Krüger]
Oblt. [= Oberleutnant] und Kp. [= Kompanie-] Chef"
...meaning:
"As a memory of the shared fighting experience,
I have had the records from the war in the west printed
for my company members.
Christmas 1940
[signed: Krüger]
Oberleutnant and Company Commander"
