First Post of 2021 nice!
The Back Says: As lasting Memory to your dear brother Alfred who, on the 23. October 1941, died the sailor death for Führer and fatherland on the french west coast.
Adravor thank you for the translation. Can you translate whats on the photo. Thank you again Gary
There are 21 Alfred's listed on the Volksbund as having died on 23rd October 1941. If his surname is Rütz then there is no-one listed with that name. No U-Boats were lost on that date either, the closest being U-204 on the 19th but that was sunk in the Straits of Gibraltar.
it appear that his cap TALLY IS REVERSED? why would this be done?
It might just be the crappy photo my phone takes
Hucks216 thank you for the info . I wish i had more history on this guy buy this ia all I have. Thank you for taking the time and looking him up . Gary
Toot & Gary, the photo was printed backwards. Wrong side up, which is an easy mistake to make. The last word on the tally is Kriegs. So the printing on the Tally is probably Kriegsmarine Dwight
Could only find Minesweeper sunk by a mine off Lorient on that date, no further information yet.
