A pretty neat poem or song not sure which. Not sure if it was written by this soldier as his name and feldpost number are typed on the bottom or given to him, but very interesting nonetheless. He was killed in Italy at the Cassino fighting on March 29, 1944.
I'll include the english translation below:
The March of the 10th Army
Wind and storm is blowing through Olive Groves,
Be patient Comrade, stay behind Cover,
Shells are whistling above us, crashing down around us.
Just think of Home, far away,
who want to hear about your deeds.
Monte Cassino, Anzio, light up the sky
And will never vanish
Miles high Abruzzian Mountains,
Guard you with heaviest weapons.
Shells are whistling above us, crashing all around us, we
defending our homeland, far far away. We are mowers of
bloody seeds.
We are here in south where we have been ordered
We are bounded together, and Mountains will burst and
death will be with us, that tells of our deeds.
Shells whistle above us, in Storm across the valley
Crashing down around us, my dear old Homeland so far
away.
All soldiers will honor you.
Let the storm blow over Valley and Hill, we stand fast
despite all the danger.
The Swastika flag is our holy flame, we all gather around
it one day
Shells whistle above us, across valley and hills, crashing
around us, oh Holy Germany, my eternal Land Fuhrer,
Folk and Soldier.
