Hi there.
Glenn is spot on.
The Brandenburgers are the 'Grandfather' of the modern day special forces.
History
I would love to see your death card too.
Kind regards,
Will.
Thank you so much for the quick reply. Very interesting as the card only stated he was in a infantry regiment
I don’t currently have a photo on hand I will take one when back from vacation. The card doesn’t say anything about a brandenburger unit so this is very interesting
The vague unit description on the card is very typical for those in such units. The level of secrecy for the clandestine and special objective units was tight and some families were kept in the dark. Both of these reasons are why the cards will not say anything more than “infanterie regiment” or “pionier bataillon” for example. Willmore has a few such cards and can attest.
Is there somewhere I could find more information on his specific company? Thank you
Google "Brandenburger" for more in-depth information....
Hello,
if you are interested, AMEL is one of the German-speaking municipalities that Belgium received as compensation for the 1st World War.
Like many people, he may have been drafted into the Wehrmacht after the invasion of Belgium or may have been a volunteer given the specificity of the unit.
