This Death Card commemorates Ludwig Troll, who was born October 5, 1918 and was killed April 8, 1942 near Naraja, Russia (Pennawald). He was a member of 5 Komp II/Feld Regt D Lw 4. Interestingly this regiment was part of Luftwaffen-Division Meindl, which was the first Luftwaffe Feld Division.

I suppose there is a mistake here. Not "Naraja, Russia", but Staraja Russa.

There are several casualties from Trolls Regiment listed as killed during the beginning of April in the Pennawald area. I found one from 6th Kompanie and his place of death was only 4.5 km from "Stara Russa" note the spelling on the card.

Lorenz Kirschner was not recovered during our re-interment activities. The planned transfer to the collective cemetery in Charkow was, therefore, unfortunately not possible. His name will be recorded in the cemetery's memorial book.

At first I wasn't sure what the ‘Kampf-Bataillon’ actually signified, but was kindly provided with the answer -

Kampf-Bataillon 488 was created from the remains of Grenadier-Regiment 488 / Regimentsgruppe 488 in 1943. It was part of 268.Infanterie-Division (which became Divisionsgruppe 268 in late 1943). The unit was destroyed during the Bobruisk pocket in 1944. Due to the high losses the original Regiment was decimated to a Bataillon sized unit and they named it as such.
