I could not find a Volksbund entry for Johann.

I would assume that Johann was ground crew and was injured by a vehicle of some kind. Below are some definitions of the word Quetschen.

It seems the majority of his service was with Infanterie Regiment 3 and between 1915 and 1918 he was awarded several medals.

    Hi Jan.

No casualty card unfortunately, but here is the Volksbund entry for Josef.

    Name: Josef Höller
    Date of birth: 02.10.1920
    Place of birth: Nottau
    Death/missing date: 13.07.1944
    Death/missing place: Feldlazarett 662
    Service rank: Obergefreiter

Josef Höller is buried in the military cemetery in Salla (Russland)

During the re-interment activities in his original burial location, it was not possible to identify him without any trace of doubt, so he has been buried as an "unknown soldier" in the cemetery Salla.

Endgrablage: Block 5 - Unter den Unbekannten.

I see that the cause of death was added later by a different person I think (judging from the handwriting).

The regiment had spent the 1942/43 winter in Russia defending against counless assaults around Orel. They returned to Normandie in late March after four months in Russia. In July they were delivered by train to Naples. Here preparation for a counterattack on Sicily was considered. A portion of the regiment remained here into the fall months while some were moved east across the country to defend a possible landing at Taranto. By the end of the year, the two groups were settling into their positions at Monte Cassino and Ortona. Rudolf was likely in Italy at Naples or around Taranto when he developed skin boils. There was resultant sepsis and a pulmonary embolism. I expect he was then taken by train to the hospital in Rosenheim, at the southern border of Germany.

    Hi all,

Picked up another today on my travels.

Named to Gefreiter Michael Kilger from Wieshof who was killed on 26th August 1943 in Wikniew (from Volksbund).

The volksbund states that he has likely been transferred as an unknown soldier to the military cemetary in Kharkiv.

What I find odd about this example is in English there is "Made in Czechoslovakia" on this.

    Hi Matt.

Very interesting, I have not seen a death card with made in Czechoslovakia printed on it before. All I can think is that it is an early post war example and this would make sense because of the English language used, along with the lack of swastikas.

Here is his casualty card and details.

    Name: Michael Kilger
    Rank: Gefreiter
    Birth Date: 19 October 1919
    Birth Place: Wieshof
Military Unit: 9./Batterie Artillerie Regiment 114
    Death Date: 26 August 1943

No specific cause of death is noted, only Gefallen (Killed in action)
