Very nice to see.

I do find Rohm an interesting historical charactor with his more left wing leanings etc. One of those "what if's" had he not be removed from power and murdered by the other leading Nazis. Would the Army have stepped in and crushed the whole regime, civil war etc?

I bought a small collection of newspapers from a Berlin junk shop in 1973. They were all related to the Roehm and Stauffenberg Putsch events and had apparently been collected at the time.

The others are packed away but I'll have to dig them out and post here.

One from the Stauffenberg Putsch is a single page Extra with the large headline "Der Fuehrer lebt!" with Hitler's portrait and a small article headed "Stauffenberg erschossen".

One has to imagine the moment and chaos with conflicting reports and rumors circulating throughout the day of the attempted assassination. Considering the confusion among the parties involved in the plot on both sides, that of the general population must have been even greater.

The media aspect is particularly fascinating as print and radio were the only means of disseminating news.

It would be interesting to find out if the news report of Hitler's survival was actually known at the time or if Goebbels, who apparently still had control of the press, released unconfirmed information to further disrupt the momentum of the plot.
