    Default Prussian Grenadier Pickelhaube

Hi all I recently attended the MAX show and came back with this helmet and a few others. This helmet came out of the same collection that MAP's Baden Artillery Sr. NCO M1897 Haube was in and was amazed to see that many haubes in basically new condition in person.

From the research I have done so far in addition to talking about the helmet with the seller this helmet was for an enlisted man of a Prussian Grenadier regiment. The wappen is of the older style which puts it to 1910 and earlier as after that year the grenadiers received a new style wappen which was the gardes eagle without the star. The most notable difference between a Prussian grenadiers wappen and a standard one is the replacement of the blocked FR for the royal cypher (I believe of Frederick the Greats). The other notable feature of a grenadier helmet is that the spike screws off to fit a plume for parade. I need to do some more research but it seems like all grenadier regiments since they were named had the honor of wearing a plume.

Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any year or regimental marking so this could have belonged to any of the ten Prussian grenadier regiments though there is a faint makers stamp. The only thing that worries me about the helmet are these small white tufts on the rear left seem but given everything else looks textbook to me it's not that much of a worry. Very happy to add a haube like this to the collection hopefully I can find a plume and stein to go with the helmet, thank you for reading and any information!

A top shelf looker! You did well grabbing this one early in the show as it would not have lasted very long.

Great photos and research. Would be very hard to upgrade this one.

We got lucky they were still there the minute after he pulled them out. You can almost use your Baden Artillery Haube as mirror!

A really nice example! Well done. I’m always astonished that some Haubes can maintain a condition that is virtually as un-issued and agree with MAP that this one would be very difficult to upgrade. Would look very nice sitting on top of nice blue pre-war Imperial tunic.

Incredible Piece, almost no room for improvement here.
Is that stand one of the ones made by Skipper Greenwade?
