Grand Duchy of Warsaw, Virtuti Militari, Fifth Class badge, 1808 type, in silver with rose gold centre and yellow gold wreath, green and black enamels, width 31mm, some enamel losses, very fine. Estimate: £4,000 - £6,000
Virtuti Militari Medal 1792, in gold, a 19th Century restrike, 43 x 34mm, struck with the collector’s mark of Count Emeryk Hutten-Czapski within loop of the ‘R’ of ‘SAR’ monogram, minor surface marks, extremely fine. This and the following lot may have been specially struck to the order of Count Hutten Czapski (1828-96). Estimate: £8,000 - £12,000
...and other fine orders up for auction at:
British, Russian and World Orders, Medals and Decorations (27 Nov 2013) - Live Auction - Morton & Eden Ltd.
I collect, therefore I am.
Nothing in science can explain how consciousness arose from matter.
After the death of Count Czapski his family had donated to the city of Krakow his whole collection along with the building that he built to house it.
The Warsaw Mint still has the dies for that medal.
Medal looks good, but ... when was it really struck ?
And the mark ? anyone could make one....
and picture of Gold Cross with swords ( sold to England )
Hi Igor,
Unfortunately No Gold Cross (IV) Class awarded to a Nowakowski, only Silver Cross (V) Class during WW2 x 7
Best wishes
Andrzejku
