“Wtornik” is the Polish term for a replacement medal / decoration to be used for wearing on a uniform in place of the originally issued decoration. This applies almost exclusively to the pre-WW2 made VM’s, and to a lesser degree the KW. *Military regulations specified that the recipient of the VM was to display the cross when in uniform.* Most VM recipients opted to keep the officially awarded cross stored away safely and purchase a replacement for daily wear.*
Note for item 9
Cross of Military Virtue- Cnocie Wojskowej.* Instituted in 1914 and awarded to members of Pilsudski's Legion.* Pilsudski did not revive the Order Virtuti Militari during WW I in order to avoid it being absorbed into the award system of another country.
