Meant to add, we believed this ancestor was Prussian and served in WW1 but can't find any Prussian uniforms that are similar. This photo was taken post WW` Last name is Preuss.
Polish pre-1939 uniform. You have to remember that when Poland was partitioned Poles in the respective parts served in the armed forces of the occupiers. hence his service with German army.
Hello galady1913,
The soldier in the photograph is either a Plutowny (Lance Sergeant) or a Kapral (Corporal) (need to see a close up of his epaulette to be certain) with the 1918-1921 War Commemorative Medal and the 10th Anniversary of Independence medal both issued in 1928.
Therefore we can date the photograph between 1928-1939.
Hope that this helps you.
Best wishes
Andrzej
Thank you all so much for this information. Would you expect he would have a German military record?
Thank you so much!
