Hello Everyone,
I came across the following photograph whilst surfing this morning :
Kpt. Rajmund Michał Bergel Virtuti Militari Numbered : 7020, also awarded the KN, KW, OOP.
Born on the 12th August 1894 in Jordanów, his father was a Judge. He joined the Polish Legions in 1914 and served in the 2nd Legion Regt, he had already had 2 years training in the Riflemen's Association. He was awarded the VM for bravery during the Battles fought by the Legions. In 1918 he was made a prisoner by the germans and whilst he was in prison he contracted TB.
He served in the 67pp but was released from service due to his health in 1924, but he had left the 67pp the previous year to continue his studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.
Apart from serving as a kapitan he was also a Poet, one of his poems "Wandering Trail" was about the Legions in WW1, apart from that he was a Literary Critic and Playright, he was a teacher for 10 years until December 1933 when he had to give it up due to poor health.
He died on the 2nd August 1937 in Myślenice.
