Yes indeed Tomek, very interesting. Polish Cross of Valour, British Distinguished Flying Cross, and Polish Virtuti Militari. Is there a maker name on the inside liner? Are the decorations extant?

Tony

"On Night 9/10 April 1945, this soldier took part in his Company's attack against the prepared enemy defences along R. Senio, n area of Felisio. After forcing a crossing of the river the Company was held up by close range Spandau fire from the far flood bank. Hello Everyone,
Whilst researching for a new project I came across the following Recommendations for the award of the M.B.E. (Military Division) Honorary.
Recommendation Number : 274 (T14927/561/372), Order of the British Empire (Military Division) Honorary Members :
Lieutenant Aleksander Buxakowski, Born 7th April 1901
Lieutenant Kazimierz Chylewski, Born 27th January 1887
Lieutenant Mirosław Gliński
Lieutenant W Krzyewski
Lieutenant Kazimierz Madolski
Lieutenant Stanisław Winter, Born 11th August 1902
What makes the above awards interesting is the Fact that the Recommendation from the War Office is dated 9th August 1948, also the awards were sent to the above at their homes in Poland.
Unfortunately the Citation for Lieutenant Aleksander Buxakowski is missing from the Archives, (still one avenue of research to follow)
Lieutenant Kazimierz Chylewski, Polish Army Medical Service, Grudziądz.
"Lieutenant Chylewski while in German hands rendered devoted service to British sick and wounded prisoners of war in his capacity as Pharmacist at Reserve Lazarett Schildberg and later at Reserve Lazarett Wollstein".
Doctor Mirosław Gliński, Polish Army Medical Service, of Kielce.
"This officer while in German captivity in his capacity as Medical Officer at Stalag XXB (Schubin), rendered devoted service to sick and wounded British prisoners of war".
Lieutenant W. Krzyewski, Polish Army Medical Service.
"This officer while a prisoner of war in German hands served from 1940 to 1944 in the prisoner of war hospital known as Reserve Lazarett Tangerhutte, Stalag XIA. In the autumn of 1940 one British officer and about sixteen Other Ranks were admitted as patients. Lieutenant Krzyewski rendered all possible assistance to the British prisoners in spite of the opposition of the German Authorities, who were particularly hostile to them. In his treatment of the seriously sick he showed a devotion and conscientiousness which undoubtedly saved the life of one British patient, which the German doctors had given up as a hopeless case. Further Lieutenant Krzyewski's morale and cheerfulness in the most adverse circumstances were an inspiration to the prisoners of all Nationalities in the camp".
Lieutenant Kazimierz Madolski, Polish Army Medical Services, Tozen, Mickiewicz 15, Pomorze.
"Lieutenant Madolski while in German hands, rendered devoted service to British sick and wounded prisoners of war in his capacity as Pharmacist at Reserve Lazarett Schildberg and later at Reserve Lazarett Wollstein".
Dr. Stanisław Winter, Polish Army Medical Service, Warszawa, ul. 6 m 10.
"This Officer while in German Capivity in his capcity as Medical Officer at Stalag XXB (Schubin) rendered devoted services to sick and wounded British prisoners of war".
All the above were awarded the M.B.E. (Military Division) Honorary.
No doubt after the end of hostilities, it took the authorities time to gather the relevant information and witnesses to confirm everything.
Best wishes
Andrzej
