I have documentation for this veteran that has received the Italy Star and the 1939-1945 Star. Since the awards are obviously awarded by the Polish military, and they served in Italy, that leads me to assume that they were likely involved in the battle of Monte Cassino. Can anyone with access to the list of recipients of the Monte Cassino Cross tell me if this individual was awarded the cross as well? I would be interested in the almost-impossible task of hunting that specific one down.

Hello Zarski843,
The Ribbon on the 1939-1945 Star is the ribbon for the France and Germany Star, the ribbon for the 1939-1945 Star is shown below :
With regards to St.Szer. (Lance Corporal) Wincenty Garniec 1907-96-III was awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 26176 whilst serving with the 5 Baon Lacznosc (5th Signals Battalion, 5KDP).
Hope this helps, good luck with your search
Best wishes
Andrzej

Does this suggest that the medal may be counterfeit? Because the documentation shows that it is for the 1939-1945 and Italy cross.
And thank you so much! Do you know if anyone on this website has that specific Monte Cassino Cross?

Hello Zarski843,
It does not mean that it is counterfeit only that some one has put the wrong ribbon on the Star, it is as simple as that, unfortunately I do not know if any other member of the Forum has that specific MCC.
The British awards for the 2nd World War where in the form of "Stars" and "Medals", not Cross's .
Star's issued were as follows :
1) 1939-1945 Star
2) Africa Star
3) Atlantic Star
4) Air Crew Europe Star
5) Italy Star
6) France and Germany Star
Bars were also awarded and with some Stars you would not receive both, the recipient would receive the Star and a relevant Bar e.g. Atlantic Star could receive the Bar Air Crew Europe or France and Germany but not both.
But with the 1939-1945 Star and Italy Star you are alright.
The British Medals awarded were as follows:
1) 1939-1945 Defence Medal
2) 1939-1945 War Medal
But again some Polish Soldiers only received the Defence Medal and not the War Medal as per the attached memo
I hope that this answers all your questions
Best wishes
Andrzej

Hi there ,I am grand granddaughter of Wincenty Garniec - his daughter Halina still lives . We would like to get in touch as its amazing discovery for family. We thought those medals were long lost . He fought the battle at Monte Casino and those medals were awarded after battle. He walked with Anders Army through Egypt, Palestine ,Italy and ending up iin England . We have his pictures and military book and some other memorabilia.
I would like to talk to you ,please contact me through e-mail smigajjustyna@gmail.com or FB
