greetings, does anyone know of the above gentleman who served with Pulk 4 Pancerny Skorpion 2. W.D.P ?
Hi Prosty Zolnierz,
I could only find him in "Walczace Skorpiony" History of the 4th Armoured Regiment published in London in 1975, that list's him as:
Mjr Karpinski Marian VM,KW (HQ Squadron), then I looked at the list of Virtuti Militari awards to the Regiment he is not listed, neither is he listed in the Monte Cassino Cross recipients for the Regiment.
Virtuti Militari Nr 10172 awarded when Rtm 2nd Armoured Brigade
But I have found him in the Monte Cassino Cross recipients for z 1 Pulku Ulanow Krechowieckich he is listed as:
rtm. Karpinski Marian 1907/58/III
I hope that the above information is of some use and help
Best wishes
Andrew
the man's a genius, another round of drinks, barman. thank you Andrew.
Maj. Marian Karpiński got regimental badge(Pułk 4. Pancerny), but I don't know which number.
Hi again,
I have just found the following information on Marian Karpinski from the Rocznik Oficerski 1932 (Officers Yearbook 1932)
Marian Karpinski is listed on Pages:629 & 171
The entry for page 629 is: 2 Pulk Ulanow, Podporucznik, Karpinski Marian
The entry for page 171 is: Podporucznik, Karpinski Marian (08-12-1907)
So now we know that Marian Karpinski was a Pre War Officer born on 8th December 1907.
I hope that the above information is of some use and help.
Best wishes
Andrew
thank you again to the other " oracle "
Major M Karpinski, 36 Berridge Rd. East, Nottingham.
Hiss address in 1970s
crikey ! where does all this info. come from. apparently Nottingham and Derby areas had large Polish communities after the war.
I know of the gentleman in question. He got the MC and was wounded at Monte Cassino.
He died around 10 years ago, I believe he was 92 at the time.
His wife is still alive, currently in her mid 80s, and remains at the same address.
One of his sons is a doctor in Yorkshire, the other lives in Nottingham.
Both of his male grandchildren serve in the British armed forces.
If anyone would like further information as to his service record, a copy can be obtained from the Polish War Records Office at RAF Northolt.
