going back to Jan Gierka's army nr: 921-118-III - do you know how the nr 118 was assigned?

Another example: y father's nr: Jerzy Gradosielski 1916/G/119/III
many years ago it was explained to me that
1916 is his year of birth
G is the first letter of his surname*
119 means he was the 119th with the letter G to join Anders army at that particular recruitment centre.
III is supposed to be the place of enrolment. My Dad joined in Tatiszczewo in Sept 1941. So this number must have been assigned to him at Tatiszczewo
*The G is not always used – sometimes his personal nr is just 119/III

maybe it means: he was the 119th with the letter G, born in 1916 - otherwise there would be many with the same nr.
Gierka would then be 118th with the letter G, born in 1921.
