    I misunderstood?

    Anyway, that's not the point - I know what an id number is, my question was: where does the number 118 come from? what does that number refer to?
    or in my father's case the number 119 - Jerzy Gradosielski 1916/G/119/III
    ???

    Hello Elżunia
    Beating on dog tag:
    A.P = Armia Polska = Polish Army
    1916 = Year of birth
    119 = Registration Number
    III = Army Recruiting Command*
    RZ KAT = Rzymski Katolik (Roman Catholic) - religious affiliation
    GRADOSIELSKI = surname
    Jerzy = Christian name

    *Army Recruiting Commands (wartime)
    I = 1st Corps (England)
    II = Polish Air Force (Blackpool)
    III = APW - Polish Army in the East) / 2nd Corps (Italy)
    IV = JWŚW - Jednostki Wojskowej na Środkowym Wschodzie = Polish Army Units in the Middle East (Egypt)

    Where does the number 118 come from?
    Army Recruiting Command III:she kept records of soldiers.
    From the census of soldiers born in 1916.All general military chancelleries keep records of soldiers. In the list of soldiers born in 1916 under heading 119, there is probably the name GRADOSIELSKI, and those born in 1921 under the name 118 GIERKA.
    If you have documents, post them on the forum.
    Ps.In every army of the world there is order and records are kept according to established laws and office norms. I know something about it because I was in the army a writer in the office.

    Default Copy death certificate śp RZEPKOWSKI for example.

    Once again:
    Copy death certificate śp RZEPKOWSKI.
    The notarial copy is written:
    Jednostka ewidencyjna:Record unit:17 baon strzelców
    Numer znaku tożsamości:Identity number dog tags:80-III
    Dzień i rok urodzenia:day and year of birth:6th October 1912
    In the copy death certificate śp GIERKA would be:
    Jednostka ewidencyjna:Record unit:5 baon saperów.
    Numer znaku tożsamości:Identity number dog tags:118-III
    Dzień i rok urodzenia:day and year of birth:16th December 1921
    In addition, there is another number:see post # 68:60838/42.
    If someone was registered in 1941, it probably had a number, for example:19998/41.
    If someone was registered in 1943, it probably had a number, for example:00789/43 e.c.
    And one more number:see post # 70:

    Hello Elżunia
    GIERKA he was in the records IV = JWŚW - Jednostki Wojskowej na Środkowym Wschodzie = Polish Army Units in the Middle East (Egypt) and he came to as part of supplements to 5th baon saperów.He had with him this command IV dog tag and most probably he was not given a new one-III = APW - Polish Army in the East) / 2nd Corps (Italy)-because he flew in the field of glory,26th May 1944 or there was no need.The documents need to be found when he came to the second corps as part of the restoration.
    See:ZESZYT EWIDENCYJNY GIERKA Jan.

    thank you for the extra information - where did you find this? how do I find his ZESZYT EWIDENCYJNY?
    I am trying to write a bio for Jan. His distant family in Poland know very little. Family tradition says he was in prison in Grodno, reason unknown. They think he escaped and then joined Anders army but they don't know any more.

    Elżunia:
    Family in Poland?
    If you want to know more, the family of Jan GIERKA must write to: Ministry of Defense APC Polish Inquiries Building 28 b RAF Northolt West End Road Ruislip Middlesex HA4 6NG or email: polishasstdisoff@northolt.raf.mod.uk They have a registration book with all GERKA entries. Search for direct ancestors like father, grandfather etc. they are free, however, somehow the degree of kinship must be demonstrated. If you are looking for other people you will have to pay a fee of 30 GBP. The employees of this archive check if they have such files at all and send an answer to receive photocopies we have to fill in, we will receive confirmation of the existence of the data we are interested in - Certificate of kinship. czernichowska@hoover.stanford.edu is the e-mail address to the employee - Irena Czernichowska working at the Hoover Institute in the USA. You can write in Polish. Various documents are stored at the Hoover Institute.

    Ps.The biggest problem in Poland is a banker's check. There is only one person in a bank in Warsaw who can do it...

    Seasons Greetings to YOU
