When awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 14507, the Recipients details were as follows :

Rank : Strz. (Rifleman)

Surname : Żmur

Christian Name : Bazyli

Date of Birth : 1911

Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1911-71-III, Unit : 2BSK, by the end of the war he had also been awarded the Cross of Valour (KW)

Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 19401 when awarded the Recipients details were as follows :

Rank : Strz. (Rifleman)

Surname : Dudko

Christian Name : Antoni

Date of Birth : 1917

Army Number : 1917-55-III

Unit : 18BS (18th Rifle Battalion, 5KDP).

Hello Artur,

With regards to your post Number 2997

1) Not Awarded the Monte Cassino Cross

2) Kpr. Tkacz, awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 48465

3) Bomb. Wincenty Paszkowski 1915-38-III, awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 10060, Unit 3KPAL

4) Plut. sp. Wiktor Sowiński, killed on the 27th March 1944

5) St Strz. sp. Walenty Matysiak, killed on the 14th April 1944

The above two soldiers were not awarded the Monte Cassino Cross because they were killed outside the dates that the Cross could be awarded, as explained below.

"The Monte Cassino Cross was awarded to :

1) Those members of the 2nd Polish Corps who took a direct part in the action at Monte Cassino, Piedimonte and Passo Corno, between 12th and 31st May 1944.

2) To members of the 2nd Polish Corps wounded in action between 27th April and 31st May 1944.

3) Personnel of the 1st, 161st (former2nd) and 3rd Hospital.

4) Posthumously to those members of the 2nd Polish Corps who died on the field of battle, or from wounds sustained, during the period from 27th April to 31st May 1944".

So Artur you can see that both Sowiński & Matysiak fall outside and were not awarded the Monte Cassino Cross.
