Hello Everyone,
Today I would like to show the Monte Cassino Cross number 38116 awarded to 2nd Lieutenant Adolf Maria Bocheński - born on April 13, 1909 in Ponikwa, died on July 18, 1944 near Ancona, Polish writer and political journalist, Maltese bachelor. Decorated Silver Cross of the Virtuti Militari and KW with 3 bars.
One of his legendary feats was the burning of the Italian watchtower during a patrol in the Battle of Tobruk on 15th September 1941. Without reporting to his platoon commander, he taked one of the volunteer from his unit - rifleman strz. Stanisław Jakubas and together they burned and destroyed an object deeply behind the Italian lines. After returning from a successful mission, he received absolution from his commander lieutenant, and from General Stanisław Kopański a second Cross of Valor.
His friend from Tobruk times, Jan Erdman, recalls:
"And you see?" He said then. "I told you that in war only counts what you do against your orders! Everyone's are fulfilled the orders. To stand out, first of all, you must break discipline."
Sergeant Officer Cadet of the Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade (2nd Battalion), and then the 2nd Lieutenant of the Carpathian Uhlans Regiment, thanks to great courage, a widely known disregard for death, but above all a friendly attitude, he gained great popularity and respect among soldiers. Wounded in the Battle of Monte Cassino. He died while disarming the mine near Ancona.
